Hi, this is Beverly and Ronnie Weinstein of Ageless Yoga Oak Island & we found this great article to share.  The article questions whether calcium supplements support strong bones.  Pass it on to a friend 🙂

Two recent meta-analyses have a bone to pick with calcium. The meta-analyses, reported on by NutraIngredients and published in the journal BMJ, both examined calcium’s efficacy in regards to increasing bone mineral density and decreasing fracture risk. The first analysis found that increasing dietary calcium intake did not seem to reduce the risk of fractures. The second analysis found that increasing calcium intake from dietary or supplement sources resulted in only a small (1–2%) increase in bone mineral density.

Chromium, an essential mineral, has already shown promise as a supplement to help stabilize blood sugar levels. Now, a recent study adds to chromium’s resume, finding a link between chromium supplementation and lower blood sugar levels in people with poorly controlled type 2 diabetes. Published in the Journal of Trace Elements in Medicine and Biology, the study randomly divided 71 people with type 2 diabetes who had elevated markers for long-term, poorly managed blood sugar into two groups: the first group received 600 micrograms of supplemental chromium picolinate per day, and the second group received a placebo.

Hi, this is Beverly and Ronnie Weinstein of Ageless Yoga Oak Island & we found this great article to share.  The article talks about a potential missing component from the Paleo diet! Pass it on to a friend 🙂

If you follow a Paleolithic diet (Paleo diet for short), new research may change the way you eat. The Paleo diet is based on the (supposed) nutritional habits of our pre-agricultural relatives and includes foods such as fruits, vegetables, organic and grass-fed meats, nuts, seeds, and oils. It is widely believed that the cooked, protein-rich meat of this diet was critical to the development of the modern human brain. Yet, there may be something very important missing from the meat-centric version of the Paleo diet—carbohydrates.

Hi, this is Beverly and Ronnie Weinstein of Ageless Yoga Oak Island & we found this great article to share. The article talks about some of the benefits associated with children taking multivitamins!  Pass it on to a friend 🙂

Many parents worry about their child’s diet: Are they getting the nutrients they need from food, or should they be given a multivitamin supplement to fill in nutritional gaps? The answer may be more complicated than a simple yes or no. For example, ConsumerReports.org recently reported on research that found most children get enough nourishment from food to avoid deficiencies of most nutrients. The same article also reported that supplements are not reviewed by the FDA. Yet, the body of research as a whole suggests that multivitamins might be a good idea for children, and that one key is choosing supplements that are manufactured according to federal requirements.

Gardening, particularly gardening with herbs, can provide a wealth of benefits for the body and mind. Of course, any type of gardening can be quite a workout; all that bending up and down, digging, and raking, strengthen the arms, back, and abs. Exercising outside is also a great stress-reliever, and, as many green thumbs know, you can find a lot of personal satisfaction in growing your own food. However, growing herbs is particularly wonderful because of how easy and inexpensive they are to grow. Herbs also contain a variety of vitamins and antioxidants that can produce healthy effects in the body.
